Monclairs gift shop and cafe is for collectors of beautiful things

Stepping into the French inspired gift shop of Monclairs in Latrobe Tasmania was a fabulous feast for the eyes. This boutique store is definitely worth spending time, if not money, wandering around and admiring the beautiful wares they have for sale.

Located in the main street of Latrobe and housed in a renovated bank, this building originates from the 1870s.

There are five elegant rooms to admire, both for the building itself and the goods. My fondness for handmade jewellery and other designer pieces meant I spent ages looking through their offerings.

Up market gift items for friends (or yourself) and décor for the home including wonderful bedspreads can be found here. Clothing options also including an extensive collection of night attire that will have you sleeping in style as well as comfort.

For those with furry four footed friends, signs dedicated to many breeds of dog are available here. Yes, I did purchase one of these for a friend.

Out the back is a surprising find – the Madadame Monclair Cafe. An amazing French café awaits with tables that are so inviting, you want to sit down immediately and feast away. Coffee, a wide tea selection, cakes, scones, muffins, gateau and other meals are mouth wateringly delectable.

The main counter in the café is the original bank counter. There is a definite warmth and wonderful vibe in the atmosphere of this venue. In the colder months an open log fire welcomes visitors.

The difficult choice is whether to sit inside, or outside on the verandah. The tiles on the outdoor floor bring back fond memories of similar cafes I admired in Europe.

If the weather is fine, there is seating in the middle of the garden greenery. Lots of online reviews have remarked favourably on the "secret garden in the main street".

Well, maybe a return visit or two is warranted to enjoy all the delightful aspects here!

Monclairs is located at 78 Gilbert Street, Latrobe, Tasmania, Australia

Happy Travels!
